Five Latin words, carried for centuries as five letters on the St. Benedict medal. On the medal's reverse, C.S.S.M.L. runs down the upright of the cross: Crux sacra sit mihi lux, “The Holy Cross be my light.” Across the beam, N.D.S.M.D.: Non draco sit mihi dux, “Let not the dragon be my guide.” Pope Benedict XIV approved the medal in 1741 and again in 1742. Every man follows one or the other.
On the back: an ornate cross with flared, pointed ends, engraved in cream, deep red and gold against a burst of gold rays, over “CRUX SACRA SIT MIHI LUX” and, in gold, “MAY THE HOLY CROSS BE MY LIGHT.” On the chest: the original 1765 A Co. mark in our founder's own hand. More Catholic t-shirts.
