The anthem ends with a question: "O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave?" This is the answer. STANDING YET. The first flag — thirteen stripes, thirteen stars in a circle — sweeping like a raised standard, two and a half centuries after they first ran it up. Empires have come and gone. It's still up there.
