The Story Behind the Shirt
At seventeen she took an arrow at Orléans. The next day the siege broke. Joan of Arc came to the relief of Orléans in 1429 under a standard lettered with the holy names: JHESUS MARIA. In 1431 she was put to death at Rouen, nineteen years old, crying out the name of Jesus. Her condemnation was declared null in 1456; in 1920 the Church canonized her.
On the back: Saint Joan, haloed, in full plate armor, one hand on her sword and the other on her standard lettered "JHESUS MARIA," against a red field of fleurs-de-lis, with "SAINT JOAN OF ARC" and "ORLÉANS · 1429" on scrolls above and below. On the chest: the original 1765 A Co. mark in our founder's own hand. More Catholic gifts for men.
