The Story Behind the Shirt
Fr. Isaac Jogues escaped captivity with maimed hands. Then he went back. Taken prisoner in 1642, the French Jesuit spent thirteen months at the Mohawk village of Ossernenon, where the Auriesville shrine now stands, and lost several fingers; the Pope let him say Mass with his mutilated hands. In 1646 he returned as a missionary and was killed there on October 18. With René Goupil, Jean de Lalande and five companions martyred in Canada, he was canonized in 1930.
On the back: a rough wooden cross bound at its foot with rope, crossed with martyrs' palms before a blazing sunburst, beneath the banner “The North American Martyrs” and above “Auriesville 1646.” On the chest: the original 1765 A Co. mark in our founder's own hand. More Catholic t-shirts.
Built like a conviction: printed on the Bayside 5100 — 100% US-grown cotton, spun, knit, cut, and sewn on American soil, then printed to order in the USA. Dirt to shirt, no exceptions. Veteran-owned. Est. 1765.
